Child Learning Disabilities

October 22nd, 2008

While learning has always been easy for me, I had friends who are dealing with child learning disabilities. Most cases were mild, but there are children who have serious problems, and many times these problems go undetected. These children are often labeled as problem children and are desciplined as such. They never have a fair chance because they are hampered by the disability that labels them as trouble-makers rather than just children who need extra help with their studies.

One of the most common child learning disabilities is ADHD. Although this was something that was recently been recognized and accepted, it has been around for a long time. My older brother had, and he was labeled as a trouble maker, and finally expelled from school. My brother was a good kid, but this more frightening to the child learning disablities, gave him nothing but problems. Although he was simply trying to overcome what is before him, he was seen as someone who has been labeled as “un-teachable.”

I am ashamed of this school district, and I know I will never send my children there. My mother went several times to talk about these child learning disabilities, but nobody would listen. They thought there was law, and there is nothing you can do to change his mind. I wish that my mother had a mind to raise a great stir at the time, maybe it would have made them a different look at what they did. If they thought it could really have a child learning disabilities that are out there, may have been able to help, and his life could be better now.

If you suspect that your child is in acting-up in class for reasons you can not understand, you may want to see if they have child learning disablilities. There are many times when children have problems, and not because they are bad because they can not keep up, they can not see the blackboard, or may be even have hearing problems. They may nave also  ADHD, or maybe they have one of the many other children learning disabilities there. There is usually a very common pattern of disruptive behavior, and if more parents and children take the time to find out, there would be many more children graduating from high school.

Crafts For Kids

October 14th, 2008

What are this crafts for kids?

It seems that we become a society of complainers. People love complaining about how different our children are growing up compared to how we were raised, but no one wants to take responsibility for this. If children spend the time to do things which we consider to be unhealthy, it is not our responsibility as adults to offer them to other activities?

When I was growing up Sundays were family days. We would either have relatives over for dinner or we would be invited to a relatives home. The main meal of the day was eaten at noon, adults play cards and the children would play outdoors in summer and in winter, we could make some type of crafts. Who ever was hosting the Sunday gathering would supply  the crafts for children. It was during a Sunday afternoon that I learned how to sew, paste, stamp, and make jewelry. Many of the projects were simple things that we could complete in the afternoon, but others things that we should work for several weeks. My aunts and my mother was very creative in coming up with crafts for children that held our interest and improved our skills.

Now, that I am a parent, I continue the Sunday tradition going with my children. We stay home more than we go to relatives, but the day includes a grand meal and crafts for children in the afternoon. We started this as soon as the children can safely handle the items necessary to create a variety of handicrafts. Now that the kids are getting older they sometimes include friends in crafts for children on Sundays. Once in a while there is some complaining for not being able to play the computer, but this usually ends when the craft projects are done. I still enjoy doing different projects so I can come up with a wide variety of crafts for children, that are fun and help them learn to create. My daughter has taught me how to knit. she wanted to make a scarf that required knowing how to knit. She bought a video that showed how to knit step by step,  then she showed me how to make one. Crafts for children do not need to be elaborate and expensive. The main goal is to help children understand that they can create things with their hands and also have a time each week when you can relax and enjoy the company of family members.

Diaper Bags

September 5th, 2008

It is almost comical to see a women in the baby department  store. If you want the  women in their search of adiaper bags, you can see one of two reactions. They either like what they see or hate everything. There appears to be no way, at least not when I was present. There are moms who love to find Winnie the Pooh on a bag, while others are looking around, spinning around in a circle with a look of horror on their faces. There is only one thing they seem to say: “Is this all there is?”

I must say that I am in the second group. Although it does not bother me, my little girl in something cute and girly, I do not look them in the diaper bags. I had one that is a traditional bag but I quickly replaced it by something that was never designed for diapers, but it worked very well for me. I do not like to a mommy look, although I love being a mom, and I decided against most diaper bags I find when I went shopping in the baby section.

I finally get my diaper bag in the layers of bags and purses at the bag section. Those whom I had was never been designed as a diaper bag, but they have the makings of a great carry all types of bags. They had the compartments and zippers, but they have never had for bottle. This was easy enough to overcome, I can purchase a separate one and just put it in the bag. I liked the look of bags that looks nothing like the traditional layer of bags that you see on the shelves.

If you do not want to buy the pink and blue frilly layers of bags you see in the store, you can find something that looks a little more like what you might do if you are looking for. Just look around and purchase your bag and you most likely find something you like. If you do not, you should check online for diaper bags. There are many companies who feel like I do and you will find bags that no one would have thought was made to carry diapers and clothes  just ten years ago. In fact, you can find the ones that look so good, you want to use them for something else, once your child has outgrown the diapers, provided that the interior of the bag had survived.

Child Evangelism

August 11th, 2008

The evangelization of children is one of the most important issues that we in the Church have to face. The evangelization of children is crucial to the success of any church, and the future of the community of believers. Evangelization programs Bible study, youth groups, puppet shows, and anything else you use to gain the trust of children is among the highest of work you can do for God. The problem is that the evangelization of children must be treated with a delicate touch. Too much or too little, and it does not work.

For example, as an adult, you can not preach the word of Christ to children who have not been saved. Legal risks are simply too great. Never mind that you try to save their immortal souls, and if you try to undermine parental authority, you can be prosecuted. This means you can lose your job, your freedom, and even your right to a church.

One of the churches with which we have had a fellowships had this happened to them. One of their parishioners brought in some children from their neighborhood which are a family of atheists . When they tried some child evangelism  on them, the children went home and told  their parents. They did what they thought fair. They were frightened by new ideas, and believes that parents should know. When the child’s parents sued for  continued evangelization, the church costs thousands of dollars. The minister was virtually evicted from the city and the church has lost a lot of money that could have served to establish ministries.

That is why the church for the evangelization of children must be more subtle. All evangelism must be the  evangelism of Jesus, but not all the needs of evangelization to announce the name of Jesus. While being involved in the community, to give children a healthy alternative to drugs, a church can offer the evangelization to children. Once the children understand how the Church cares about their welfare and well-being, they will be interested in what ministers have to say.

Once you are approached by children, you can watch them directly. However, it should be the first to broach the subject. The evangelization of children can be on a soapbox. It requires tact and faith. This is not to pull the children separated from their parents or their communities. The goal is to put in the church of God.

Infants Exposed To The Air

June 6th, 2008

The breath of clean air is good at all times and under all circumstances, indispensable to the health of the child. The room should be broad and well-ventilated, in an elevated part of the house, and located so as to admit a free supply of air and light.

For the same reasons, the room where the infant sleeps should be large, and the air frequently renewed, as there is so detrimental to his health as sleeping in an impure and heated atmosphere. The practice, therefore, draw thick curtains closely round the bed is very pernicious, but only respond to a utility when they defend the infant from any draft of cold air.

The right time to take the baby in the open air must, of course, be determined by the season of the year, and the state of the weather. “A delicate infant born late in the fall are not usually benefit from being outdoors in this climate, during the spring, and if the rooms in which it is required are large often changed, and well ventilated, it does not suffer from confinement, as he will most probably, escape catarrhal affections, which are often the result of the  poor infants exposure to a humid atmosphere and cold.

However, if the child is strong and healthy, should have lost the opportunity to take in the open air at stated periods, the daily experience shows that the most invigorating and bracing of influence on the system. As regards, however, must always be made to the state of the weather, and a condition of moisture in the atmosphere, the child should never be exposed because it is one of the most powerful stimulus of consumption causes the disease.

The nurse-maid, too, should not be allowed to linger and linger on, unnecessarily exposing the child, and for an excessive length of time, which is usually the source of all evil arising from taking the baby outdoors.
